Regional Student Life Community Coordinator (Intern)

GENERAL PURPOSE


The incumbent performs tasks and provides high-level planning, organizing, and delivery of extra-curricular programs for students. The person in this role will help to create a learning community that contribute to the overall experience and success of students.


RESPONSIBILITY


  •      Build a student life calendar for the DBN region and work with the students in executing the events
  •      Establish a task team that will help in the execution of all events
  •      Initiate and manage South Point regional societies in Durban
  •      Build a strong relationship with Warden and RAs and work together in delivering a strong student calendar.
  •      Review and approve House Committee proposals in consultation with regional coordinator
  •      Using the student life calendar as a guide, execute all events that have been planned by South Point for the Durban Region.
  •      Sourcing all event related material/branding and liaising with suppliers on quotes;
  •      Manage branding collateral;
  •      Encouraging academic programmes in South Point through forming academic initiatives;
  •      Communicate with society executive committees and ensure that all queries are handled timeously;
  •      Discussing all student proposals with the regional coordinator and providing feedback.  
  •      Involved in promotions and marketing South Point events in conjunction with Social Media, Task Team, use of posters and flyers;
  •      Co-ordinate and give feedback on Task Team reports;
  •      Manage Task Team calendar and incentives
  •      Marketing and ensure maximum student participation on all student events
  •      Submission of Post mortem post events
  •      Assist on marketing efforts during intake and;
  •      All other ad hoc tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management.


EDUCATION


  • Grade 12
  • Bachelor's degree and 1 to 2 years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience


EXPERIENCE


  • 2 to 3 years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and a commitment to: the community college mission and purpose; teaching and learning; high academic standards; and, student success;
  • Knowledge and experience using integrated software systems and Microsoft applications (with proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Publisher, Excel, and PowerPoint presentation);
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail;
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends as needed;
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written interpersonal skills to effectively communicate
  • with students, faculty, and the general public;
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with students, employees and the public;
  • Skill in facilitating and modelling a quality customer service orientation;
  • Ability to efficiently multi-task and conduct/complete independent work assignments
